The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the April 13 attack on police and military personnel at Enugwu-Agu Village, Oba Ofemili, in Awka North Local Government Area. The incident, which resulted in the burning of a military operational vehicle, is being described as a serious assault on national security.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, operatives from the Rapid Response Squad Awkuzu made the arrests on May 2, 2025, during a targeted follow-up investigation. The suspects, identified as Uche Egwu, 35, and Jindo Onyeka, 32, reportedly confessed to their involvement and provided intelligence on others implicated in the attack.
The assault, which took place in broad daylight, was unprovoked and targeted both security personnel and community stakeholders. Though the attackers destroyed property, notably a military vehicle, no casualties were reported.
Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, praised the professionalism and restraint shown by the operatives during the confrontation. He described the incident as a deliberate and grave provocation, characterizing it as “an attack on the soul of a nation.”
CP Orutugu further directed investigators to broaden their efforts to apprehend other suspects still at large. He emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in supporting and safeguarding the nation’s security forces.
The arrests mark a significant step in the ongoing efforts to combat violent threats against law enforcement and ensure peace in the region.
